Drennan AS1 Carp Pole Rig

The Drennan AS1 Carp Pole Rig is a fine, ready-to-use pole rig for cautiously feeding F1s and smaller carp on commercial fisheries. The slim pencil-shaped float offers little resistance when a fish takes the bait and makes subtle bites clearly visible. The design was developed together with five-time world champion Alan Scotthorne.

The 3-metre rig is hand-tied on 0.18 mm, 6 lb main line and fitted with a 0.16 mm, 5 lb hooklength. The barbless size 16 Wide Gape Pellet hook is suitable for pellets, expanders, sweetcorn and other compact hookbaits. The interchangeable 1.5 mm Hi-Viz antenna allows you to adjust the contrast to suit the light conditions.

Why is the AS1 suitable for cautiously biting fish?
The slim pencil float creates little resistance when a fish moves the bait. This makes small lift bites and cautious pull-aways easier to spot.

What type of fishing is the AS1 less suitable for?
In strong winds, heavy surface movement or when mainly large, powerful carp are expected, a more stable or heavier rig may be more suitable. The AS1 is primarily designed for a delicate presentation.

What bait suits the size 16 hook?
Compact baits such as pellets, expanders, sweetcorn and small portions of other commercial hookbaits work well with this barbless Wide Gape Pellet hook.

How do I get the most from the sensitive float?
Shot the rig carefully so that only the necessary part of the antenna remains visible, and keep the line between the pole tip and float under control. This makes subtle movements easier to notice.
