Monster Feeder Reels & Spare Spools

The Preston Monster Feeder Reels are designed for retrieving large, heavy feeders. They are suited to feeder fishing with longer rods, distance fishing and powerful fish. In addition to the complete reels, this product page also includes separate spare spools for the corresponding Monster model.

Drag and line clips for control

With the SD Speed Drag system, you can quickly adjust the drag. The double line clip helps mark a chosen casting distance and repeat subsequent casts at that distance.

Both complete reels feature a 4.7:1 gear ratio and 6+1 bearings. Preston combines these with powerful retrieval for heavy feeders and a subtle brand logo.

Difference in line retrieval and weight

According to Preston, the Monster 520 retrieves 85 cm of line per handle turn and has a stated reel weight of 411 g. The Monster 620 retrieves 105 cm of line and weighs 428 g. The 620 therefore retrieves more line per turn, while the 520 is slightly lighter.

The stated line capacity is the same for both models: 150 m of 0.26 mm mono. Do not choose based on the size number alone; also consider the desired line retrieval and weight in combination with your rod.

A suitable spare spool

The Monster 520 spare spool is for the Monster 520 Feeder Reel; the Monster 620 spare spool is for the Monster 620 Feeder Reel. A separate spare spool is supplied individually and is not a complete reel. These spools have the same stated line capacity as the corresponding reel. A spare is useful, for example, for having a different line ready to use.

If you want to fill the reel or a suitable spare spool with mono for feeder fishing, Reflo Sinking Feeder Mono is a supple, fast-sinking main line. Match the line diameter to your fishing and the expected strain.
