The Drennan AS2 Pole Float features a thickened 0.6 mm spring stainless wire stem for improved stability compared to glass or carbon. The stem is also only tied halfway into the bulbous body, instead of extending into the brush, to improve the balance and behavior of the float without adding unnecessary weight or compromising buoyancy. Alan has extensively tested these floats in practice and is pleased that the thicker stem withstands heavy abuse from catching large bags of carp!

The buoyant bodies of the Drennan AS2 Pole Float are remarkably concentric with very little or no misalignment of the stem and ends to the body. Made from light balsa for maximum buoyancy-to-size ratio, they are coated in an extremely tough acrylic paint that provides a strong shell-like construction, preventing line damage under extreme pressure from large fish.

The Drennan AS2 Pole Float is slightly rounder than the AS1 and features a hollow, 1.75 mm diameter, buoyant glow tip that is easily visible in various lighting conditions. The shape and brush diameter are ideal for presenting larger bait for carp and other quality fish. The extra buoyancy can help you distinguish real bites from line bites caused by fishing against the rig.

Glow tips on AS pole floats are reinforced where they join the body. This strengthens the hollow glow tip at a critical point and provides an extra-strong base for the eye.

AS floats also have a double-wound stainless steel eye mounted at the base of the tip. Placing it here offers the mechanically strongest position without piercing the body and risking water ingress, which would affect the float’s performance. Because it is double wound (i.e., the eye is fully round), this means the line cannot get pinched or damaged, as often happens with conventional single-wound, U-shaped eyes. These special eyes are also made from blackened stainless steel to match the body, providing a clearer demarcation line to the glow tip, making bites easier to spot!
