Barbless hook: eyed or spade end?

Looking for a barbless fishing hook to tie your own hooklengths? The Guru MWG Barbless is an eyed hook that you can tie directly or use for a hair rig. The Trabucco Power Specialist Barbless is a spade-end hook and comes in packs of 15. Choose the version that suits your rig and compare the available hook sizes on the product page.

Fine for roach or with larger bait?

For small natural bait, such as a maggot, pinkie or caster, you can compare a fine hook in size 18 or 20. The Preston SFL-B Spade End Barbless has thinner wire than the GPM-B and is designed for roach, bream and other silverfish. This fine hook is also barbless.

For larger bait or when you are looking for a strong all-round pattern, compare the Guru Super LWG Spade End Barbless in size 14 or 16. It has a wide gape and is suitable for, among other things, sweetcorn, worms and pellets. Always check that the hook point remains exposed.

Hook size, wire thickness and whether or not the hook is barbed are separate choices. A barbless hook does not therefore have to be large or heavy.
