The Drennan Vertex Reel FD is a smooth-running reel for accurate English float and feeder fishing. The ultra-shallow spool requires hardly any backing, allowing your main line to be wound on more neatly and to flow freely off the spool when casting. This helps improve both distance and accuracy.

Precise drag and practical line control

The finely adjustable front drag allows you to adjust the resistance step by step to suit the main line and hooklength in use. A spring-loaded stainless-steel line clip helps you consistently find the same feeding spot. The spools accommodate rubber identification buttons on which you can mark the line diameter or breaking strain, so you can quickly see which line is loaded.

Compact transport on a made-up rod

With the one-touch folding handle, you can quickly make the reel narrower for transport in a rod holdall. The 5.1:1 gear ratio and 7+1 ball-bearing system ensure smooth operation. Aluminium and composite spools are supplied; the exact contents depend on the chosen version and are listed with the product option. For a balanced combination when targeting feeder fishing, take a look at the Drennan Vertex Distance Feeder Rods. For float fishing, the reel makes a practical combination with, for example, the Drennan Acolyte Commercial Pellet Waggler Rods.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Drennan use an ultra-shallow spool?

A shallow spool is designed for standard amounts of nylon line used in match fishing. This means you need little or no backing and avoid an unnecessary layer of line underneath your main line.

How do I use the rubber identification buttons?

Place the button with the correct line diameter or breaking strain in the recess on the spool. This lets you immediately identify which line is on it when changing spools.
