How do I pull a hooklength through a PVA stick?

Insert the closed needle lengthways through the filled stick. Open the latch, place the hooklength loop in the closure, close the mechanism and gently pull the loop through the PVA material.

Why is a gate latch better than an open hook for PVA?

The closed shape covers the connection to the hooklength loop while pulling it back. This makes the needle less likely to catch in the fine PVA fibres and reduces the risk of tearing.

Do I slide the PVA stick over the hook?

First pull the hooklength through the stick, then slide the stick towards the hook. Before casting, check that the hooklength, hook and PVA presentation lie freely and are not twisted together.
