Crystal Caster Pole Rigs

Drennan Crystal Caster Pole Rigs

The Drennan Crystal Caster Pole Rigs are ready-made rigs for fishing “on the drop”: a presentation where the hook bait sinks slowly and naturally through the water. The transparent float body is less noticeable than a fully painted float, while the slim profile and titanium wire stem keep the rig stable as it sinks.

The short hollow antenna has sufficient buoyancy for a range of hook baits. An evenly distributed shotting pattern slows the bait's descent and helps present the hook bait amongst the loose feed. The rig is tied on 0.18 mm 6 lb main line, with a 0.15 mm 4 lb hooklength and a size 18 Wide Gape Pellet hook.

Frequently asked questions

What does fishing “on the drop” mean?
You present the hook bait as it slowly sinks through the water column. Fish intercepting loose feed can therefore find the hook bait naturally amongst the feed particles.

Why are the shot distributed along the line?
A spread shotting pattern slows the sinking speed of the hook bait. This provides a longer, controlled bait drop and more time to spot bites at different depths.

How do I recognise a bite while the bait is sinking?
Do not only watch for the float going under. A stop, acceleration or sideways movement during the bait drop can also indicate a bite.

When should I use this rig instead of a compactly shotted rig?
Choose the Crystal Caster Rig when fish are feeding higher in the water or responding to slowly sinking feed. For a quick presentation directly on the bottom, a more compact shotting pattern is usually more suitable.
